What we believe about software, people, and why the two deserve better from each other.
WHY SCOUT
Software is entering a new golden age.
LLMs are making it possible to push the boundaries of what an interface can be. Software interfaces have traditionally been static. People had to learn how they worked, navigate through them, and pull out whatever they needed.
This changes what companies can offer their customers.
For the first time, we can create software experiences that adapt to every individual without requiring a human to manually design every interaction. We can deliver personal attention at software scale.
At Scout, our goal is to make the interaction between companies and their customers feel magical.
That begins with something simple: help companies understand their customers better.
PRINCIPLES
01
Interfaces should seek to understand, not just wait for instructions.
People should not have to know exactly what to ask for, where to click, or how a product works before they can receive value from it. Software should understand their intent, recognize where they are struggling, and help them move forward.
02
AI should accelerate human work and help people create things others value.
AI should give people more time to think, exercise judgment, understand customers, and focus on the work only they can do. It should help people create better things, not simply produce more things.
03
Using software should feel magical.
Great software should feel intuitive, personal, and surprisingly helpful. It should understand what someone is trying to achieve and guide them towards it without making the experience feel complicated.
04
Human relationships are valuable. AI should help them scale, not replace them.
The goal of AI should not be to remove people from every interaction. It should help people understand one another better, remain present as companies grow, and spend more time on the parts of a relationship that require empathy, judgment, and care.
Scout's Vision for the Future
In this interview, Jony Ive talks about the experience of a user opening a product for the first time. Great hardware companies think carefully about every part of that experience, including the moment someone opens the box.
Software rarely creates the same feeling. Very few software companies have succeeded in making the first interaction memorable.
We want to change that.
Too much software behaves like a vending machine. The customer arrives, makes a selection, and is left alone to figure out the rest. We want to bring the same level of thoughtfulness found in great hardware experiences to software.
Software should not simply wait for people to figure out what they need. It should understand them, guide them, and help them reach the value they came for.

These principles will not come to life on their own. People are needed to make them real — acting as individuals, working together in teams, building companies, and leading others.
The future of software should not be defined only by what AI can automate. It should be defined by what AI helps people understand, create, and improve.
We believe software can become more personal, more thoughtful, and more human. That is the future Scout is working towards. And we are only getting started.
